Simei : Meaning of Healing and Holistic Care - July 20 (Sat)

MacPherson: Meaning of Healing and Holistic Care - July 20 (Sat)  As we live in an era where modern medicine focuses on the efficiency of dispensing biomedical services, the concept of healing is hardly ever being addressed and often remains misunderstood.  Yet, many modern healthcare institutions have chosen to use the term holistic care with increasingly frequency to market their services as being of superior quality, with the implication that healing is their ultimate aim. This unfortunately adds confusion to our understanding of a term that is already very complex in meaning. The essence of the concept of healing and holistic care revolves around the theme of wholeness. Unfortunately, modern healthcare does not have a biomedical model to illustrate the concept of wholeness. In this talk, the speaker will attempt to explain wholeness through its subthemes of meaning of illness, life narratives, connectional relationships and transcendence of suffering.   Come learn more in this talk by Dr Peter Mack.
